Resolution Inequality

So with even a $399 tablet doing 2560x1600 pixel displays, can we please just make that the new standard laptop resolution? Even at 11"? Please. Stop with the "retina" baloney, just call it "reasonable resolution". The fact that laptops stagnated ten years ago (and even regressed, in many cases) at around half that in both directions is just sad.

I still don't want big luggable laptops, but that 1366x768 is so last century. Gosh, soon even the cellphones will start laughing at the ridiculously bad laptop displays. I want pixels for high-quality fonts, and yes, I want my fonts small, but "high resolution" really doesn't equate "small fonts" like some less-than-gifted tech pundits seem to constantly think.

In fact, if you have bad vision, sharp good high-quality fonts will help.

Microsoft vs Ford

For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives, read on.
At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, 

'If Ford had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon.' 

In response to Bill's comments, Ford issued a press release stating: 

If Ford had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part): 

1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash.........Twice a day. 

2.. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car. 

3... Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this. 

4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine. 

5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads. 

6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single 'This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation' warning light.

I love the next one!!! 

7. The airbag system would ask 'Are you sure?' before deploying.

8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna. 

9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car. 

10. You'd have to press the 'Start' button to turn the engine off. 

PS - I 'd like to add that when all else fails, you could call 'customer service' in some foreign country and be instructed in some foreign language how to fix your car yourself!!!!

Could the iPhone 5 have 4G LTE?

So far, industry analysts have been split in their opinion whether the next iPhone will support LTE connectivity or not, but the rumor that we just came across might shed some light on the issue. According to an Engadget tipster, one of Apple's major retail stores has just been provided with LTE equipment, and the reason for that is speculated to be, of course, that the iPhone 5 will boast an LTE radio.

I think that until we can get good battery life with 4G phones, a 4G iPhone would do the company more harm than good. While the iPhone battery certainly doesn't live up to blackberry specs, it does out life most Android smartphones available today.

Virgin Mobile to no longer offer unlimited data plans

Sprint-owned Virgin Mobile will lower the price of its Beyond Talk "unlimited" voice, data, and text messaging plan to $55 per month, but raise the cost of its two cheaper Beyond Talk plans to $35 and $45 per month, respectively.

The new prices take effect next Tuesday, July 19, but unfortunately for consumers, the definition of "unlimited" will change in October. At that point, Virgin will start throttling its 3G data speeds when usage exceeds 2.5GB per month—likely to about 256 kbps or below

LG Revolution

Since the LG Revolution was relased last Thursday I decided to go check it out at the Verizon store.
Well, to begin, its outward looks were against it. Its almost as thick as the thunderbolt which kills the hope of having a thinner phone. Its materials are plasticy and the silver buttons look really cheap. It is a bit lighter than the t bolt to be fair, but not much.
it has an LG skin to it which is one of the worst I've used. It gives the shortcuts different icons and the app tray is divided into categories. Nice if you want them sorted, but after having apps alphabetical for so long, its natural that way.
It has bing search instead of google. Im not sure if you can change that preference, but if not, then that could be a big consideration.
I played around with some apps and when I loaded a video on tv.com and then exited it froze up. Finally it left the app, but the audio kept playing. It was a pretty big glitch in my opinion so I put the device back on the shelf. No Revolution for me.
I haven't really gone hands on with the droid charge. The one at the Verizon store wasn't working. Im not very likely to get it anyway for several reasons. 1 I dont want to pay $300 for a phone. 2 Samsung puts a very weak wifi chip in the device. 3 like all the others say, its plasticy and doesn't feel solid. I also am not very keen on the physical navigation buttons.
If I were to buy a Verizon 4G phone today it would be the Thunderbolt. I feel it is the most solid and it has a good feel and proportion.
The Verizon rep said the Bionic is still in the works and hasn't been canceled, they just don't have a release date yet.
Tiered data plans are going to be coming in July, so if you need an unlimited plan, resign soon if possible. Verizon may grandfather the unlimited data plans for a short period of time, but that's not definative.

Droid Bionic, are you here yet?

The Droid X is a fantastic phone. It's one of my favorite android phones and probably The best 3G phone available and even gives most 4G phones just hitting the market a run for their money. I love it's brilliant display, huge screen, superb call quality, nice camera and strong wifi chip. The camera bulge was a strange thing, but it distingushed it and gave it character. The buldge is someone common I suppose. Most of HTC's phone have it, just not as big. Well, the reason for This is that while the X is a solid phone we've all been waiting for the Droid Bionic to make this a dream phone. A phone with Capacitive buttons, no camera hump, although probably thicker overall, a front camera, dual core processors, and certainly not least, 4G LTE connectivity!
Well, we thought it would be here by now, but of course maybe a month ago we began to hear it was being delayed. I heard of a June 9th release date, but can't confirm that and haven't seen that anywhere else. I've called several Verizon corporate stores and one representative said that the Bionic may be released in July, but doesn't know for sure. He said that developers are having difficulty keeping the battery from draining insanely fast with the dual core processor inside the beast.
There have also been reports that the device has been abandoned. It may resurface with a different name and design. We think the Motorola Targa, which may look alot like the Droid X, will have a dual core processor and 4GLTE compatibility.
So my dilemma is this. I need a phone now, and I want the Droid Bionic. I was holding out, but had hoped it would be here by now. And I'm beginning to loose faith on it. Verizon's three LTE offerings; the Thunderbolt, Charge, and LG Revolution(which should release May 26), as well as the T Mobile G2X.
All of these devices has features I want, but none of them have it all...the Bionic is rumored to.
None of Verizon's 4G phones have dual core processors. A huge disappointment. This doesn't rule them out yet though. It's said by many that these dual core beasts arnt getting the full benefit because there just arnt apps that use that dual core potential. The dual core is supposed to help with web browsing and especially flash, say some. Others say dual core just eats the battery.
And screens. These manufactures are still slapping on 480x800 displays. It's the time of 580x960 qHD screens please!
The Thunderbolt is huge, and thick. I'm a strong guy, but can a 6.23 oz phone get to me? Thats 2 oz heavier than the Samsung Galaxy phone! The T-Bolt battery kills, but a Verizon rep told me there is an app that let's you turn off 4G and use 3G. 4G kills the battery at about 5% an hour just in standby so switching to 3G in stand by or when you're not by a charger is a definite plus.
The T Mobile G2X with it's sleek design and dual core processor is definatly attractive, but it's 5GB "unlimited" data plan and mediocre screen are a considerable downer.
I have to say I am blown away by Verizon's 4G LTE network. The speeds and low ping is just phenomenal!
I'm gonna have to wait at least until May 26 and see what the LG Revolution delivers and see if we hear anymore news about the tardy Bionic.

T Mo, you're not allowed to call it unlimited unless it really is.
When T Mobile cuts your data speed after you exceed the limit, your speed will drop to less than dial up speed!
Other than that, this plan is a smoking deal! Just someone tell me if they cut off you're texts if you send a million texts some month.
